Is Sugar Poison? Is Sugar Toxic? – Science point to “YES”

I’m putting these up here with the intention of filling out a bit more of the information around it later.  In the meantime, please feel free to check out these talks.

A New York Times Article About It

NPR discusses the same.

Also take note of this *other* source that very simply explains the effect that Carbohydrates have on the body in general.  What’s most interesting to me is how this information merges with the information from Dr. Lustig above.  If Lustig is saying that the body can process *most* of our Glucose sugars (within limits) and the information below is explaining simply how carbs effect the growth of fat… then it should stand to reason that to a reasonable extent, we’re allowed to eat the Glucose carbs that we get from bread – but not the refined sugar carbs that we get from Soda and stuff like that (this includes honey, agave, table sugar, and everything with the ever popular High Fructose Corn Syrup).

All that said and done, this seems to mesh pretty closely with what Tom Venuto explained in his book .

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle

Honestly, I’ve known that his book was right on the money for ages now, so it’s nice to see some actual giant-brained doctor’s research.

Take the 100 Chin-Up Challenge

Adding muscle requires lifting heavy weights, and for most people, doing even one chin up is a real challenge. If you do chin-ups, you will gain muscle. Both your biceps and your back will show incredible improvements over time. Remember, if you can add 1 pound of muscle you’ll increase your Basal Metabolic Rate by about 50 calories (typically about 2%).

The Chin-up Challenge: to do 100 Chin Ups in a day.

If you need to grab a bar try one of these:

Destination Abs! Episode One

Here’s a video introducing “Destination Abs” I’ve got a little quest going with myself to see if I can get from the point I am now to that point of actually having visible abs.

There’s a lot of questions about whether it’s even possible but here goes!

*one note about the video… I do say that it’s been a year since I was “the chubby guy” when actually it’s been two (how time flies). It took me less than a year to get to the point I’m at now and I’ve spent the last year “maintaining” my current weight.

It feels like it’s just about time to put the next big push in – so here goes!

The Law of Calorie Balance

What better way to explain a concept than with video?! Here’s my attempt to explain “The Law Of Calorie Balance” to you.

Some things to remember:

  • Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the vast majority of your calorie burn. An hour of hard work on a treadmill is only about 1/4th your BMR.
  • Muscle Burns Fat. Adding 1 pound of muscle mass will increase your BMR by about 50 calories every day.
  • Exercise comes with a bonus period of increased calorie burning known as “Afterburn” as your muscles repair themselves, your metabolic rate increases for up to 24 hours.
